Welcome to the latest issue of WoodTECH.News.

This month we cover the significant challenges faced by the wood industry and highlight a number of exciting investment opportunities. In particular, we’ll like to commend AKD on its current recruitment drive, which shows that we can attract new and young talent into the sector.

Residues2Revenues 2023 is only a couple of weeks away now. Over 200 have already registered so, like last year, we’re looking forward to a full house. The event runs in Rotorua, New Zealand on 25-26 July 2023 and focuses on the significant bioenergy and bioproduct market opportunities available.

One sawmill that’s been able to utilise mill residues enabling them to transition into new wood products and markets as well as decarbonising their operation, will be presenting. Residues2Revenues 2023 is also available to those outside of New Zealand through online live streaming. All details, including how to register, can be found on the event website.

In this edition of WoodTECH News, we’ll be covering:

  • NZ’s first fully automated third-party logistics warehouse, the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, is poised to revolutionise order processing times with improvements of up to 400%.
  • The NZ wood industry’s sustainability efforts shine as an energy centre invests $2.28 million to replace coal with biomass.
  • AKD sets records and showcases its investment in fostering skill development and supporting the next generation of trade apprentices.
