Welcome to the latest issue of WoodTECH.news.
We are only a couple of months out now from this year’s WoodTECH 2019 series that will be running in New Zealand and Australia. The 2019 programme focuses on the green mill and it’s looking like another massive turnout. Over 400 attended the event in 2017. This year we have a massive international contingent, with 34 sponsors and exhibitors on-site, an expert speaking line-up and a series of practical hands-on workshops for mill production and operational staff. Click here for the full programme.
In this month’s newsletter, we cover the new ABARES snapshot of the Australian wood processing industry. While the latest figures come from the 2016-17 season, it is still a good overview of how the sector has performed over the last 10 years.
The future of timber construction looks promising, with a new research trial adding specialised RFID tracking to prefabricated timber systems to provide real-time data about each component. There is also a new mass wood panel system which is currently being introduced by SmartStruct into Australia and New Zealand building sectors. While the system is well-established in Europe, it offers a host of benefits to our designers and engineers in this part of the world.
And finally, congratulations to Paul Madden from Arbuthnot Sawmills. He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to the industry and the local community of Riverina. That’s it for this month. Enjoy this latest issue.
